Split the dinner receipt without the spreadsheet

Six friends, one receipt, three shared appetizers and one person who only had a salad — fair splitting is genuinely fiddly. Does Chefington move the money?

No — Chefington calculates fair shares and tracks who has settled up. How your group actually pays each other back is up to you.

How are shared dishes handled?

Assign a shared dish to exactly the people who shared it and it splits between them — evenly, or by portion if someone had more.

What about tax and tip?

Both spread proportionally to what each person ordered, so the salad-only friend isn't subsidizing the steak.

Can we split unevenly on purpose?

Yes — adjust any share manually before you send the summary around. Birthday person eats free? Zero out their share and the difference spreads across everyone else.
