The Chefington glossary

Chefington borrows its language from the kitchen. Here is what every term means — in plain words.

What is a Recipe in Chefington?

A Recipe is a step-by-step plan for any goal — a trip, a dinner party, a renovation, a product launch — not just food. Each Recipe holds the steps, the things you need, a budget, and live progress in one place.

You can build a Recipe by hand, draft one in a short conversation with the Sous Chef, or fork a public Recipe someone else already refined. Recipes open in multiple views: a tree of steps, a board, a checklist, a calendar, or a dashboard.

What is an Ingredient in Chefington?

An Ingredient is anything a Recipe needs to happen: supplies, tools, bookings, documents, or people. Ingredients live alongside the steps so the shopping list and the plan never drift apart.

What is a Step in Chefington?

A Step is one unit of work inside a Recipe. Steps nest — a big step can contain smaller ones — so the same plan reads as a quick checklist or a detailed tree, depending on how far you zoom in.

What does it mean to fork a Recipe?

Forking copies a public Recipe into your own kitchen so you can adapt it — change steps, swap ingredients, reset the budget — without touching the original. The fork keeps a link back to the Recipe it came from.

What is the Sous Chef in Chefington?

The Sous Chef is Chefington’s built-in AI planning assistant. Describe what you want to pull off, answer a couple of questions, and it drafts a complete Recipe — steps, ingredients, and rough costs — that you can edit before anything starts.

You can try the Sous Chef from the homepage without creating an account; signing up saves the draft to your kitchen.

What is your kitchen in Chefington?

Your kitchen is your home base: every Recipe you’ve created, forked, or been invited to, in one place.

What is XP in Chefington?

XP are experience points you earn by completing steps and finishing Recipes. XP tracks momentum and progress — it is not money and cannot be bought, sold, or exchanged.

What do public, unlisted, and private mean for a Recipe?

Private Recipes are visible only to you and people you invite. Unlisted Recipes can be opened by anyone with the link but are never listed or indexed. Public Recipes appear on Chefington’s public Recipes page and can be forked by anyone.

Public Recipe owners also control whether search engines may list their Recipe — a separate "Show in search engines" switch in the Recipe’s settings, on by default.
